A DEVINE COLLECTION

This project was commissioned to support a public auction of a significant local photographic collection. The collection, created by George P. Devine and later his son George A. Devine, offered a rare glimpse into the people, places, and stories of Inverell’s past. My task was to produce a handout that provided both historical context and visual storytelling, engaging community members as well as those with a deeper interest in the region’s heritage.
The challenge lay in balancing education with accessibility. I designed an A4 folded brochure that was easy to handle and visually inviting. To maintain reader interest without overwhelming them, I broke the text into short sections with clear subheadings, ensuring the content was digestible and engaging. A vintage-inspired colour palette was chosen to complement the archival photographs, some of which remained in their original black-and-white form, while others were duotoned to harmonise with the overall aesthetic.
The final brochure combined informative narrative with striking visuals, celebrating the Devine family’s legacy while adding value to the auction experience. Feedback from attendees confirmed that the handout was both informative and appealing, serving as a lasting memento of Inverell’s photographic history.
